About Nick Sakiewicz

Nicolaus “Nick” Sakiewicz is a seasoned Sports and Business Executive based in the metro Philadelphia area. A former professional soccer player, Nick has built an extensive career in sports marketing, management, and real estate development.

As a founding executive of MLS (Major League Soccer) he helped grow the sport from 10 teams in 1996 to the 20 teams it is today. In addition, Nick was the founder and driving force of the creation of the Philadelphia Union of MLS. Nick engineered his second stadium deal in Philly (Red Bull Arena NY/NJ was the first) and all facets of a public/private finance package that made the soccer-specific stadium a reality.

Through the recession Nick led the effort to complete construction, secure the naming rights and other key sponsorships that enabled the Philadelphia Union to launch. Nick led the successful effort to build the management team and launch the Philadelphia Union in 2010 as Major League Soccer’s 16th expansion franchise.

In January 2016, Nick was named the Commissioner of the National Lacrosse League where he is responsible for helping grow another emerging sport in the U.S and Canada. Nick oversees all aspects of the League’s strategy with a focus on growth in all areas and the future development of the National Lacrosse League.
